CARIBOU, Maine — Since the year 2000, Katahdin Trust has raised money for the American Red Cross by selling stuffed animals known as “Critters.” 2016 will be their 16th year raising money for the organization.
These stuffed animals, which have colorful names like “Prissy Poodle,” “Sweet Lily Piggy,” “Baxter Bear,” and “Saco Seal,” will be sold at all Katahdin Trust branches in northern Maine for a donation of $10 each.
“Critter sales help us respond to a wide range of disasters,” said Aroostook County Red Cross Branch Manager Joyce Knorr in a press release issued Monday evening. “It might be helping a family who lost their home in a fire or opening a shelter after an ice storm knocks out power.”
Proceeds from the fundraiser ensure that the Red Cross can provide services at no cost, such as emergency shelter, food, clothing, infant supplies, and medical equipment, to survivors of a fire, flood, or other disaster.
“A disaster can happen to anyone, at any time, and we’re grateful to have the Red Cross in our community,” said Katahdin Trust Senior Vice President of Marketing & Communications Vicki Smith in the same press release. “We’re delighted that Katahdin Trust can again support these efforts through the Cute, Cuddly Critter Campaign. Our employees and customers have fun collecting the Critters, and we’re especially pleased that the money goes to a very good cause to help the victims in our local area that are struck by disaster.
“Critters” will be available at all 15 northern Maine Katahdin Trust branches until February 12, 2016 or while supplies last.
