Open house scheduled for MRPC

This past year was an exciting time for the Meduxnekeag River Pony Club, a chapter of the United States Pony Club. And as the year comes to a close there are many more activities planned for 2016.

The Meduxnekeag River Pony Club held an end-of-the-year banquet on Nov. 21. Members were recognized and awarded certificates for their participation this past year. The club members were recognized for not only their horsemanship, but also for their teamwork and participation in learning. It has been so much fun watching these members grow up and evolve into good riders and horsewomen.

Bridget Hill, 15, daughter of Cary and Terri Hill of Houlton, was recognized as Pony Club member of the year. Bridget consistently demonstrated throughout the year that horsemanship goes beyond simply riding or the care of the horse. She always involved the combination of both mounted and unmounted knowledge and abilities. Bridget showed great leadership, a sense of honesty, character, pride and good sportsmanship at all times. She has taken on much responsibility aside from just riding horses. She is positive and always smiling – she was well deserving of this special award. Congratulations Bridget!

Meduxnekeag River Pony Club is having an open house Saturday, Jan. 9, at Aroostook Milling in Houlton from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Everyone is welcome to stop by. Refreshments will be provided, there will be a slideshow presentation and posters, and members and parents will be available to answer any questions about the club.

The United States Pony Clubs, Inc. was founded in 1954 as a nonprofit national youth organization to teach riding and horsemanship through a formal education program. Youth members range in age from as young as 4 through 25. There are approximately 10,000 members in 600 clubs and riding centers in 43 regions throughout the country.
