Kinneys celebrate 70th anniversary

A party for their 70th anniversary was celebrated by Phil and Eva Kinney, friends and family on Nov. 15 in the fellowship hall of the Full Gospel Assembly of Mars Hill.
Over 160 people came to honor the couple. They were married on Nov. 20, 1945 in Mars Hill at the Baptist Church parsonage by Rev. Beal. It was a snowy day, so the only people that attended were the happy couple, the bride’s dad and mom, Perley and Gertrude Shaw; the best man and bride’s brother, Jim Shaw; and the matron of honor and groom’s sister, Eleanor Cheney.
The couple celebrated the special event with a delicious dinner ending with a beautiful cake made by Starr Craig. They enjoyed a special program with many people making comments about them.
Pastor Faloon opened with a prayer over the food and presenting his special comments for the special couple. Pastor Mark and Mary Carter spoke and sang a song for them. Their great granddaughter, Liberty Fulton, sang “Alleluia”, and Myrna Long, Debbie Alexander and Gloria Watson sang two songs. This was followed by Skip and Carrie Faulkner’s comments and song. Chloe Shaw also sang a special in their honor.
Their daughter-in-law, Susan Kinney, made some comments and led all in singing “Happy Anniversary” to Phil and Eva. Great grandson Jamison Fulton and great granddaughter Liberty Fulton read a poem that they had been written especially for their great grandparents. The program ended with their daughter Sandra Fulton’s comments and special thanks for all they have done for her and everyone else whose lives they have touched through the years.
