Father, daughter hunters win big buck competition

Just by coincidence, James Michaud and his daughter Abigail Michaud each found some of the biggest deer harvested by hunters this season.

The father won Ben’s Trading Post’s big buck competition for the largest deer killed by an adult, a 10-point, 226-pound buck Michaud saw four times in an area north of Caribou on the second week of November. Abigail killed a 9-point, 175-pound buck in Perham during the third week of November.

Although that wasn’t the largest deer he’s ever shot, this year was a pretty good season, Michaud said.

“It was neat that we both won the buck contest.”

He said they’re now on the hunt for coyotes, a way to keep more deer alive for hunters.
