PI Wildcats’ basketball games
against Ellsworth and MDI
moved back due to storm

Tuesday’s snowstorm has forced some changes to Presque Isle’s varsity basketball schedule.

The Wildcat teams were supposed to host Mount Desert Island Tuesday and Ellsworth today, but SAD 1 Athletic Director Mark White announced yesterday morning that the games have been moved back with adjusted times.
Presque Isle will now play Ellsworth tonight, with the girls’ game beginning at 6 p.m. and the boys’ contest at 7:30 p.m. MDI now pays a visit Thursday. The girls’ varsity game is at 1 p.m., while the boys will play at 2:30 p.m.
It is part of a very busy week for the Wildcats, who also host Central of East Corinth Saturday afternoon.
Also moved from last night were Ashland’s scheduled home games against East Grand/Greater Houlton Christian Academy, which will now take place Monday at 5 and 6:30 p.m.
There were a few games played over the past week. The Fort Fairfield teams had a home-and-home series with Madawaska and came away with victories in all four games. The boys are now 4-3 after they won last Wednesday on the Owls’ home floor, 61-27, and then took Monday’s home game, 55-26. Chris Giberson was the leading scorer for the Tigers in both, with 17 and 14, respectively.
The FF girls ran their record to 7-1 after claiming a 58-47 road win and a 65-47 triumph at home. In the most recent win, Taylor Churchill had a career-high 31 points Monday, while Chelsey Pelkey registered a statistical triple-double with 10 points, 11 rebounds and 12 assists.
The Washburn squads were in St. Agatha Monday afternoon for a doubleheader against Wisdom. Jarrett Olson’s 27 points led the Beaver boys to a 79-46 win, while the Washburn girls were defeated, 48-27, as Rhylee Wright netted 17 for the Pioneers and Laina Mette’s six points were tops for the Beavers.
The Washburn boys are now 5-1 and the girls are at 3-2.
The Ashland girls were soundly beaten by Southern Aroostook last Wednesday in home games. The girls (now with a 2-5 record) lost, 70-27, while the boys (0-7) fell by an 87-32 final.
Easton recorded a sweep over Van Buren last Wednesday. The boys have now won five straight and are 5-1 following a 59-24 win. Jordan Doody’s 17 points led the way for the Bears. The girls improved to 3-2 with a 52-18 verdict over the Crusaders.
The Central Aroostook teams have been off since well before Christmas and resume this evening as the 2-1 Panther girls are at Washburn and the 3-1 boys are home against Fort Fairfield. The Panther squads host Limestone-MSSM Saturday, with the girls’ game tipping off at 5:30 p.m. and the boys at 7 p.m.
