NMCC students busy with holiday spirit
PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Northern Maine Community College students participated in a number of community holiday activities recently and raised money for a good cause.
Students from Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society for two-year colleges, sponsored a wreath sale, with a portion of the proceeds going to the Central Aroostook Humane Society. The sale was held in conjunction with the Festival of Trees event held at NMCC.
For the first time, the annual Book Giveaway was a three-day event held on campus in the Akeley Student Center. About 5,000 gently used books were cleaned and sorted by students and faculty from the Early Childhood Education program and displayed for the taking. A reading corner was also set up for children to start enjoying their new books on site.
Crowds of families and children could choose their favorites and all the books had been distributed by the end of the event.
Finally, a number of students participated in the Presque Isle Holiday Light parade by helping to decorate the NMCC float and walking in the mile-and-a-half-long parade route to give out small Christmas tokens.
