Editor’s Note: The following article is a synopsis written by staff members and volunteers of the Cary Memorial Library in Houlton highlighting one of the suggested reading books, as determined by the staff.
Imagine you and your child notice a well-kept dog wandering in town and the friendly animal obviously likes the child and you. Imagine the dog is wearing little yellow shoes. Imagine you took the cute little thing home, bought him a collar, fed him. Then take him to the dog park where he shows everyone the many tricks he knows—-but suddenly he runs away, fast.
Imagine your child’s disappointment and sadness about losing the new pet.
Would she have empathy for the original owner? Would he try to find the real owner because he realizes the dog must be missed by them, as well? How could they find the owner if there was no collar, no microchip, no clue except the yellow shoes?
Imagine, then read Sangmi Ko’s new book, “A Dog Wearing Shoes” recommended for the four to eight year-old group. Just another good example of the newest and nice books provided for children at Cary.
