PROBUS club
welcomes Russian concert pianist
PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The regular meeting of the Presque Isle PROBUS Club was held Dec. 17, 2015 on the Northern Maine Community College campus.
Ginny Joles, program chairman, introduced renowned Russian pianist Liudmila (Mila) Mamontova, originally from St. Petersburg, who played a wide variety of classical pieces and kept her audience in awe.
Mamontova has had 16 years of musical study, having started piano lessons at age 7. She has taught over 1,000 students and served a college professorship. She was an accompanist for the opera at the Taganrog in Russia, and also served as accompanist for the musical faculty at Russia’s Pedagogical University.
In addition, she has written and published a book called “Images in Music,” which helps people understand music through dance, poems and literature.
After her daughter, Anna Robbins, answered questions for Mamontova (who is still learning English), a Christmas luncheon was served in the NMCC cafeteria.
The next PROBUS meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 21, 2016 at NMCC’s Reed Commons.
