CARIBOU, Maine — The RSU 39 School Board began their first meeting of the year by welcoming Betheny Anderson to the board, and electing a number of positions for the year.
Anderson, who is still licensed to teach, received a bachelor of science degree from the University of Maine at Orono in 1973 and has a number of professional credits under her belt. In addition, she has held keys to every building in the RSU 39 district.
Anderson ran against incumbent Kent Forbes during last year’s election and received 54.68 percent of the votes, securing her position as board member.
Board members moved to elect Tanya Sleeper as 2016 chair and Clifford Rhome as vice chair.
The board also appointed members to various subcommittees for the year.
Sleeper, John Sjostedt and Michelle Albert were appointed to the finance subcommittee.
Rhome, Jan Tompkins and Sjostedt were appointed to negotiations.
Albert, Ron Willey and Rhome were appointed to facilities.
Sleeper, Albert and Willey were appointed to curriculum.
Sjostedt, Rhome and Tompkins were appointed to policy.
Sleeper was appointed to the District Wellness Committee.
Anderson was appointed to the Caribou High School Scholarship Finance Committee and also as the Presque Isle Regional Technology Center representative.
Superintendent Timothy Doak announced four new hires, including Courtney Cote as swim team volunteer at Caribou High School, Pierre Huntress as varsity baseball coach at Limestone Community School, Rebecca Wakem as cheerleading volunteer at Caribou Middle School, and George Ferland as Nordic ski assistant coach at Caribou High School.
