CARY — Former Cary, Maine resident George “Aubrey” Clark peacefully passed at 90 on January 8, 2016, in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. Preceded in death by his daughter Beverly and brother Sterling, Aubrey is survived by Noreen, wife of 64 years, four children (Wanda, Wendell, Barbara and Brenda), and 16 grandchildren, as well as siblings Duane and Carolyn.
Born on October 5, 1925 in Royal Oak, Michigan, Aubrey was raised in Stickney, New Brunswick, Canada and served in the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II as a bombing instructor. He later attended and graduated from New Brunswick Bible Institute, meeting Noreen Doris Paul who became his bride. In addition to bible school, his preparation for missionary work included medical missionary training. In 1952, Aubrey and Noreen traveled to Brazil by steamer where they completed language training before living in the interior of Brazil as frontier missionaries. Multiple health challenges forced his return to the United States, along with a family now including five children.
After graduating with a bachelor’s degree from Ricker College in Houlton, Maine, Aubrey taught on Beal’s Island and in Ludlow, Maine. However, his continued love for Brazil led to his return in 1970 to missionary service as professor and director at a seminary in Fortaleza, Brazil.
In 1987, Aubrey and Noreen retired to their bungalow in Cary, Maine, where he served as Sunday School teacher and deacon at Cary Baptist Church. He enjoyed visiting and helping people, working in his garden and yard, being with his wife Noreen and reading about alternative healing.
In 2012, he and Noreen moved to Kingston, Ontario, where he continued going on walks and attending the local senior center.
Celebrations for Aubrey’s life include a funeral on January 16 at 11:00 a.m. at Robert Reid Funeral Home, in Kingston, Ontario with lunch after provided by Bethel Church and a memorial service in Cary, Maine during the summer 2016.
