Racers to gather at KDR memorial runs
PORTAGE LAKE, Maine — Racers and snowmobile enthusiasts will gather in Portage Lake, Sunday, Jan. 17, 2016 for the annual Kyle Daniel Rogers Radar Run event. The KDR Radar Run was started in honor of Rogers, a young man from Windham who passed away in 2008 as a result of a snowmobiling accident in Portage.
The competition starts at 10 a.m., with registration opening at 9 a.m. The races will take place on the lake, in front of the Forestry building.
Organizers have said they would not have the races if it ice conditions were unsafe. They will be monitoring weather and ice conditions through mid-week. Updates may be posted at the Portage Lakers Club Facebook page.
The entry fee is $5 per run. Prizes will be awarded in the following classes, stock, improved, vintage and mini.
Mini Class racers must be 6-12 years old with maximum sled size of 250 cc. All other racers must be 16 or older and those under 18 must have a parent present during runs.
A awards ceremony will take place at Dean’s Motor Lodge immediately following the races. Food vendors will also be at the event, raising funds for Ashland’s Project Graduation 2016.
