     WHALEN, Durward C., 84, PRESQUE ISLE, January 12, 2016. Spring interment will be at North Main Street Catholic Cemetery, Presque Isle. Arrangements are under the care of Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, Presque Isle.

    PRESQUE ISLE – Durward C. Whalen, 84, passed away Tuesday night, January 12, 2016, at The Aroostook Medical Center. He was born Feb. 15, 1931, in Lincoln, the son John and Theo (Smith) Whalen.
American Flag Color    Durward served in the U.S. Navy. He worked at Western Union from 1952 to 1985. He served on the SAD#1 School Board and on the board at Sister Mary O’Donnell Shelter for the Homeless.
    He is survived by his wife, Mary (Sheahan) Whalen of Presque Isle; a son, Shawn Whalen of Mapleton; two daughters and their husbands, Stacey and Joseph Michaud, and Amy and Jonathan Billings, all of Presque Isle; two sisters, Joan Workman and her husband, Rob of Hamden, CT, and Maureen Woodard and her husband, Harold of Lincoln; five grandchildren: Brooke and Justin Michaud, Lindsay Trombley, and Taylor and Paige Billings; five great-grandchildren: Devin Ossie, Emme Jo Vasquez, Olivia Michaud, Avah and Anah Trombley.
    He was predeceased by a sister, Wilda Millett.
    A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated 11 a.m., Saturday, January 16, 2016, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Parish of the Precious Blood with the Rev. Antony Alexander Maria Doss officiating. Friends called 10 a.m., Saturday, until time of the Mass at the church. Spring interment will be at North Main Street Catholic Cemetery, Presque Isle.
