Public access channel has new guidelines
IN THE CITY
Many local organizations may already be aware of the city’s Channel 16. This local public access station is sponsored by Time Warner Cable and the City of Presque Isle.
The station is used to broadcast City Council meetings and also to provide a venue for local non-profit organizations to publicize upcoming events. There is no charge to publicize your information on this station.
The city has recently developed some guidelines for posting information on the station.
1. As this service is supported by Presque Isle taxpayers, it will only be available to non-profit organizations with offices in Presque Isle or with events being held in Presque Isle.
2. It is suggested that postings be limited to 50 words.
3. If the posting does not contain a date specific event, the posting will be removed after a period of ninety (90) days.
4. The information to be posted on the City’s public access channel:
a. May not be in violation of any applicable law or regulation;
b. May not be libelous, defamatory, hateful or constitute an illegal threat or abuse, contain ethnic slurs or racial epithets or anything that could be construed as harassment or disparagement of others based on race, national origin, sex, age, disabilities or religious beliefs;
c. May not be obscene, contain sexually explicit messages or be construed as offensive, abusive or threatening;
d. May not be an infringement on any copyright, trade secret or intellectual property right;
e. Should not encourage conduct that would be a criminal offense or give rise to civil liability.
As you prepare you posting for public access, think of it as wording for an event flyer. Make certain to include who, what, when, where and why. It is also very important to include contact information should the City or anyone reading your information need to contact you.
With the advent of digital cable, many viewers may not find this station on Channel 16. For instance, on my cable, it is on channel 121-16. Please refer to your individual cable listings.
To place an item on Channel 16, your information may be mailed to Channel 16, 12 Second Street, Presque Isle, ME 04769. It may also be faxed to (207) 764-2501, or you may e-mail me.
