Carlisle swimmers record solid efforts

     LIMESTONE, Maine — In its second home meet of the winter, the Carlisle (Caribou, MSSM and Presque Isle) varsity swim team hosted Old Town and although both the boys’ and girls’ teams lost, many individuals put up strong performances.

     The boys fell to the Coyotes by a score of 88-66, while the girls tallied just 29 points compared to Old Town’s 29.

     The top results for Carlisle included the first-place effort of the girls’ 200 medley relay team, consisting of Abigail Espling, Elizabeth Deschenes, Madelyn Wing and Kyra Thibeault. The foursome’s finishing time was 2:25.91. The team of Deschenes, Adrianna Bither, Riley McNeal and Libbee Currie captured the top spot in the 200 free relay in 2:26.25.

     Wing won the girls’ 200 freestyle in 2:15.01 and the 100 fly in 1:10.24, while Nate Gere was the winner in the boys’ 100 fly in 1:10.27. Leigh Buck came in first place in the boys’ 100 free in 54.06 and David Govoni prevailed in the boys’ 100 breast in 1:13.65.

     Second-place finishers in their respective events were Gere in the 200 free (1:58.09), Buck in the 50 free in 24.15, Thibeault in the 100 fly in 1:33.6, Abby Espling in the 100 back (1:20.67), Deschenes in the 100 breast (1:41.51) and the girls’ 400 free relay team of Wing, Currie, Espling and Thibeault in 4:49.03.

     Taking third were Thibeault in the 200 I.M. (3:08.98), Govoni in the 500 free (27.39), Espling in the 100 free (1:15.78), Currie in the 100 back (1:30.98) and Bither in the 100 breast (1:52.56).

     The team’s next meet will also be held in Limestone Saturday against Hampden Academy. It begins at 1 p.m.
