Foul shooters representing Presque Isle Elks Lodge 1954 had a strong showing at the Elks National Hoop Shoot Program’s Northern District Championship, held in Bangor Sunday.
Out of the six age divisions, five local youths came away with titles and a sixth finished as runner-up. Capturing wins were Madelyn Johnson of Washburn in the 8-9 girls’ division, Colby Burlock of Mars Hill in the 8-9 boys’ division, Faith Sjoberg of Presque Isle in the 10-11 girls’ division, Maddie Stratton of Caribou in the 12-13 girls’ division and Parker Deprey of Caribou in the 12-13 boys’ division. Placing second in the 10-11 boys’ division was Kaden Tardif of Mapleton.
The five winners will now advance to the state championship, scheduled to take place Jan. 31 at Bangor High School. Those victorious in that event move on to the Northeast Regional, consisting of winners from the six New England states, slated in Portland in March.
