Matmen solid in home tourney, get ready for PVCs

     CARIBOU, Maine — The Viking wrestlers hosted 11 other school Saturday and performed well, with seven competitors finishing among the top four in their respective weight divisions.

     Evan Michaud was second in the 120 lbs. division, while Calvin Mockler came in fourth in 126. Tre Caudill was the runner-up in 132, Carter Conley fourth in 182, Dustin DeMerchant second in 195, Isaiah Thayer third in 220 and Colton Conley third in 285.

     Mockler went 2-2 on the day in his division.Colton Conley put together a brilliant effort in the heavyweight class, which featured 11 wrestlers. He captured four wins on the afternoon to reach the consolations finals.

     “There were no team scores compiled but if there were, I think we would have placed third on the day,” said Caribou coach James “Chico” Herrnandez. “I’m proud of the guys.”

     Caribou now enters the championship phase of its schedule, which starts Saturday with the Penobscot Valley Conference meet held in Ellsworth.
