Town Manager Butch Asselin informed the Town Council Monday evening that MDOT has agreed to replace the lights at the intersection of Court and Military streets and also at Bangor, Kendall and Main streets.
Once the traffic lights are installed, the town assumes liability for maintaining them, Asselin said. The project is estimated to cost in excess of $400,000. A public hearing will be held Wednesday (today) at 6 p.m. at the Town Council chambers.
In other agenda items, the council:
— appointed Priscilla Monroe and Donna Barnard to the planning board to fill unexpired terms.
— approved a service contract with the Southern Aroostook Development Corporation in the amount of $2,333 per month.
— accepted $85 in memory of Peter Hormchuck to be used for basketball programs at the Houlton Recreation Department and $75 in memory of Robbie Cottle for youth programs at the Rec.
— unanimously approved an electronic mail policy for town councilors and other town boards or committees.
— granted approval to have the town manager sign a Utility Location Permit for Northern Maine Interconnection for an overhead electrical utility line to cross Drews Lake, Porter Settlement, Hagan and Ludlow roads.
— granted a secondhand precious metals dealer application to Stephen Wiggins, doing business as Wiggins Trading Post on 16 Bangor St.
The next regular council meeting is slated for Monday, Feb. 8, 2016 at 6 p.m.
