Log truck overtuns in Monticello

MONTICELLO, Maine — A truck driver was injured Monday night when a rig carrying logs overturned on a logging road, according to state police.

Kerry Hardy, 62, of Dyer Brook was traveling west on the private road when the rear of his trailer went off the side of the road, according to Sgt. Brian Harris.

Hardy was traveling downhill at the time of the crash, and the trailer went down an embankment and rolled onto its side, causing the load of logs to release from the trailer into a ditch, Harris said.

Hardy, who was not wearing his seat belt, was thrown to the cab’s passenger side and suffered a major head laceration and a possible broken leg, Harris said. Rescuers had to extricate him from the cab.

Hardy was brought to Houlton Regional Hospital. The truck had significant damage, and the vehicle and load were removed from the scene.
