The teen, who was not named because he is a juvenile, failed to stop his 1995 Arctic Cat at the intersection of the ITS 83 snowmobile trail and Gentle Road as he was riding north at about 1:29 p.m. Sunday, according to Maine State Police Sgt. Jeffrey Clark.
The New Limerick boy then attempted to turn left to avoid hitting the 1991 International log truck driven by Lawrence Schools, 55, of Littleton, which was headed east on the Gentle Road, approaching U.S. Route 1, Clark said in a news release.
“The snowmobile struck a snowbank ejecting the boy from the snowmobile and into the wheels of the log truck trapping his arm under the wheel,” the sergeant said.
The teen was in serious condition when taken by the local ambulance service to Houlton Regional Hospital, Clark said. HRH officials said Tuesday the youth was transferred to another medical facility in stable condition.
