OAKFIELD — Arthur L. Briggs, 68, passed away January 13, 2016 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born November 9, 1947 in Lincoln, to John & Shirley (Malcolm) Briggs.
At the age of 7 he moved to Oakfield and became a member of the Crandall clan. Upon his retirement from Dead River Company, after a long career as a propane delivery driver, he received what would became one of his most prized possessions, a lifetime pass to all Southern Aroostook home games. Being an avid basketball fan, Arthur enjoyed watching any game, but took great pride in being the first recipient of a lifetime pass to all Southern Aroostook home games. Even if you didn’t see him in the Warriors gym, you would hear him cheering for the players “offering” strategies to the coaches and making calls for the referees, even if he wasn’t certified.
He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Cathy (McMannus) Briggs; his children: Tammy Briggs and Crystal & John Folsom; his “adopted” children: Rachel & Travis Desrosier and Eric Crandall; grandchildren: Ria and Morgan Kinney, Colton and Emma Folsom and Sammi and Caleb Desrosier; brothers: Almon and his wife, Theresa, of Lincoln, Richard and sister-in-law, Madeline, of Houlton; sisters: Shirley Drew and her husband, Peter of Oakfield, Margaret Hardy and companion, Jan McLoughlin, of Norway; mother-in-law, Alice McMannus of Smyrna; brothers and sister-in-laws: Nancy & Glen Hersey of Oakfield and Craig & Julie McMannus of Merrill; special friends: Arnold & Brenda Farrar and Marla Crandall as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Thelma & Asa Crandall; father-in-law, Stuart McMannus; brothers: Kenneth and Raymond; a very special sister-in-law, Rosella and his brother of the heart, Bruce Crandall.
