PITTSBURG, NH – Richard L. Roix, 89, formerly of Salem, NH, died Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2016, at Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital in Colebrook, NH. He was born and educated in Presque Isle, ME, the son of the late Phebe (Adams) and Sidney Roix.
Richard served his country in the Army Air Corps during WW II and he served in France and Germany.
He worked at Sears in Presque Isle for many years, he drove a pulp truck, helped on the farm and liked to go fishing. He worked on the building of Loring Air Force Base Runway in Loring, ME, in the 50’s, he drove a taxi and had a garage with his dad and he retired from Western Electric in the 70’s. Richard worked at Canobie Lake Park running the kiddie rides for 20 years, a job that he really loved.
Richard enjoyed square dancing and camping. He loved to tell stories about his life and his family history and golfing with his boys. In later years, he loved to go to engine shows with his son-in-law. He was a 23 year member of the American Legion, Ernest Young Post 63 in Salem.
Richard was thrilled to be taken to Washington, DC. to view the WW II Memorial with the Honor Flight Program.
Richard was predeceased by his wife, Arleen Roix; his sons, Douglas Roix, and an infant; his step-sons, Harold and David Bilodeau; and his sister, Maxine Harrington.
He will be sadly missed by his daughter, Diana and husband, Kenneth Lundberg; his son, Donald Roix and wife, Patricia; step-children, Bruce Bilodeau and wife, Nancie, Glenn Bilodeau, Pamela Lundberg and husband, Raymond, and Todd Bilodeau and wife, Teri; five grandchildren; 14 step-grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held Saturday, January 30, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., followed by funeral services at 1 p.m. at Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main St., Salem, NH.
