PELLETIER, Victor, 94, SEBASTIAN, FL & PRESQUE ISLE, ME, at Sebastian, FL, January 19, 2016. Burial will be in Maine this summer.

SEBASTIAN, FL & PRESQUE ISLE, ME – Victor Pelletier, 94, passed away January 19, 2016, in Sebastian, FL. He was born January 12, 1922, in Caribou, ME, to Alphondor and Nora (Jandreau) Pelletier.
American Flag Color    Victor served in the United States Army during WWII with the “Red Ball Express” from 1943 to 1946. He and six other men from the Presque Isle, Caribou and Fort Fairfield area, were fortunate enough to have been in the same company even though they were separated after joining up.
He married the love of his life, Maria Herle’ of Antwerp, Belgium, in February 1946. She immigrated to the United States and lived with his parents until Victor came home later that year. They then made their home in Presque Isle for 38 years. She preceded Vic in death in 2014.
Victor was one of the first hired employees of the new Sears Roebuck that was built in Presque Isle after the war. He started on the loading dock, working his way up to Assistant Manager of the store, after refusing to be transferred many times to other places. He loved Presque Isle and Maine in general. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, loved walking in the woods and had many stories about meeting up with bear and deer. He once fell asleep resting against a tree and woke to find a deer staring him in the face a short distance away. Another time while fishing and eating raspberries he had picked along the way, a mother bear and two cubs walked across the stream about 20 yards from him. He always said, “they’ll leave you alone if you leave them alone”.
For many years, Victor and Maria (Mickey) were “Snowbirds”, traveling the I-95 corridor from Maine to Florida, until fifteen years ago when they became permanent residents of Sebastian, FL. They also traveled extensively in Europe visiting friends. He liked being outdoors and learned to play golf in his later years. Victor continued to work part time at a golf course in Florida until his mid-eighties. He also enjoyed playing bridge with many friends from Maine and Florida.
Victor is survived by nieces and nephews and many dear friends who have kept in touch with him over the years. It was a great comfort to him to get a visit, letter or phone call from one of them after Mickey passed away.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at Saint Sebastian Catholic Church, Sebastian, FL, on Friday, January 29, 2016. Burial will be in Maine this summer. Because of Vic’s love of animals, especially cats, donations in his memory may be made to the Central Aroostook Humane Society, 26 Cross Street, Presque Isle, ME 04769.
