Fundraiser held for Mars Hill man
Special to The Star-Herald
MARS HILL, Maine — With vehicles filling all parking lots and lining the street, Central Aroostook High School was packed with supporters at the fundraiser for Stuart Craig on Saturday, Jan. 30, 2016. Over 500 people were on hand for the baked bean supper, silent and live auction.
There were at least nine motorcycle clubs from throughout the state on hand to support Craig, who has been the president of the Pine State Club for 12 years. He is also a member of HOG, Red Knights and Patriot Guards Clubs. Many of the clubs made special presentations to help with medical expenses as he fights cancer.
Some of the clubs represented were United Vets, ALR, Red Knights, Pine State, Tribunal, Widows Sons (Men of Tyre), HOG, Mattawamkeag MC and Patriot Guard Riders.
There were over 100 items available during the silent auction with the same number up for live bids as auctioneer Bert Winslow worked his magic to help raise money for medical and travel expenses for Craig in his fight against cancer.
There was a lot of good-natured bidding going on for a great cause. Thanks to all the supporters that came to the dinner and auction as around $28,000 was raised. Craig works for the Town of Mars Hill. He is currently taking chemo treatments for three days in a row, with 18 days off. He is scheduled to start 28 days of radiation treatments on Monday.
