Boys hoop squads end regular season

The regular season came to a close Feb. 3 for boys basketball teams as Hodgdon picked up the win over East Grand/Greater Houlton Christian Academy, which knocked the Vikings out of playoff contention.

Played at Danforth, the Hawks (10-8) cruised to the 71-43 win behind Jimmy Buzzell’s game-high 20 points. Dana Brown added 10 points.

For East Grand/Greater Houlton Christian Academy, Thomas Gilman tallied 16 points and Isaac Potter chipped in 10.

Also played Feb. 3, 2016, the Shires’ season came to an end as the Houlton boys fell, 55-41, to Mattanawcook Academy at Lincoln. MA was propelled to victory by three players in double-figures. Senior captain Gunner Maxwell led the Lynx with 14 points while Jordan Hanscom and Carter Ward each netted 12.

Houlton was paced by Jacob Brown with a game-high 21 points.
At Dyer Brook Thursday, the visiting Fort Fairfield Tigers pulled off a hard-fought win over the host Warriors, 66-61.

Chris Giberson scored 21 points and Isaac Cyr contributed 20 to lead Fort Fairfield past Southern Aroostook. Ryan Player added 12 points for the Tigers.

Nolan Altvater poured in a game-high 29 points for the Warriors, including his 1,000th career point. Jackson Mathers chipped in with 17 points.

The Tigers led 15-11, 32-29 and 49-46 at the quarter breaks.
