Wildcats place fifth in Class B cheering States
BANGOR, Maine — It was quite a showing for the Presque Isle Wildcats at the Class B state cheering championships.
PI placed fifth out of 12 teams with 70.2 points to cap its competition season Saturday at the Cross Insurance Center.
Head coach Jenna Bradstreet said the team was seeded ninth or 10th heading into the event, so she and the squad “were ecstatic” about the fifth-place finish.
“To prepare for the state competition, we focused on making our stunts stronger, improving on our formation and spacing issues, and practicing our overall performance to really sell the routine,” Bradstreet said. “The team did a fabulous job on their last performance of the 2016 season. I couldn’t be prouder of them.”
Old Town took first with 81.3 points and edged regional rivals Ellsworth and Hermon. Medomak Valley from the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference was fourth, just ahead of the Wildcats.
Team members include seniors Madison Bagley, Michelle Cawley, Lindsey Lagerstrom, Alexandra Michaud and Kelsey Michaud; juniors Victoria Williamson, Gabriella Donovan, Justine Labier and Ashley Turner; sophomores Kiara Lyford and Jessie Boucher; and freshmen Miranda Drost and Emma Kohlbacher.
Lagerstrom and Kelsey Michaud are the captains and Kelsie Spooner is Bradstreet’s assistant coach.
