HOULTON, Maine — The Houlton Recreation Department is currently accepting registrations for the following Youth Basketball Programs. Girls Grades 5-6, Boys Grades 5-6, Girls Grades 7-8 and Boys Grades 7-8. Registrations have been distributed throughout the local school systems or can be picked up at the Recreation Centers main office.
This six-week program costs $25 for Houlton Residents and $35 for non Houlton Residents. Registration deadline is February 12, 2016. This six-week program will begin after the February School vacation. For more information, contact the Recreation Department at 532-1310. Deadline for registration is Feb. 12.
Vacation Activities for Houlton Parks and Recreation
Programs being offered during the February vacation break at the Houlton Parks and Recreation Department are as follows:
Tuesday, Feb. 16 — Bowling at Hilltop Lanes. Youth in grades Pre K ‚Ä“ 6 are invited to attend this program from 10 a.m.-noon at Hill Top Lanes on Calais Road. Drop off and pick up will be right at the lanes on this day. Along with the bowling and mini golf, a pizza lunch and drink will be provided for the children. The cost is $8 per child.
Wednesday, Feb. 17 — Vacation Fun Program with crafts, games and contest will take place from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Houlton Rec Center. Children are asked to bring their own lunch this day. Grades Pre K-6 are invited to participate. Children as asked to wear/bring sneakers.
Thursday, Feb. 18 — Cross Country Skiing at the Military Baptist Church on Drakes Hill from 10 a.m.-noon. Drop off and pick up will be at the church. All skis, boots and poles will be provided at no cost. Children must be Grades 1-6 to participate. Hot cocoa will be provided on this day.
All three activities require a registration and parents may register by calling 532-1310. Registration Deadline is Friday, Feb. 12.
The Houlton Parks and Recreation Department will have the following open gym and game room hours for youth in Grades 2-12 during the February vacation break. Times are as follows: Saturday, Feb. 13, 1-4 p.m.; Sunday, Feb. 14, 1-4 p.m.; Monday, Feb. 15, 1-4 p.m.; Tuesday, Feb. 16 CLOSED; Wednesday through Sunday, Feb. 17-21, 1-4 p.m..

The John A. Millar Civic Center will be open for public skating during the February vacation break. Here is the schedule: Friday, Feb. 12, 6-8 p.m.; Saturday, Feb. 13, 4-6 p.m.; Sunday, Feb. 14, 2-4 p.m.; Monday, Feb. 15, 2-4 p.m.; Tuesday, Feb. 16, no public skate — Black Hawks vs. Messalonskee Hockey game 1-3 p.m.; Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2-4 p.m.; Thursday, Feb. 18, 2-4 p.m.; Friday, Feb. 19, 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m.; Saturday, Feb. 20, 2-4 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 21, 2-4 p.m. Admission fees are $3.50 for youth; $4 for adults; Skate Rentals are $2.
