AARP program offers tax preparation help

CARIBOU and PRESQUE ISLE — The AARP Tax-Aide service is currently offering free individual tax preparation assistance in both Caribou and Presque Isle.

Participants do not have to be members of AARP to take advantage of this service. Tax preparation aides will be at the VFW Club on the Van Buren Road in Caribou on Tuesdays and Thursday from 9 a.m.-3 p.m., and in Presque Isle at the University of Maine at Presque Isle’s Campus Center, Room 118, on Saturdays from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Taxpayers should arrive no later than 2 p.m.

The service is staffed with trained volunteers who use IRS-authorized tax software to prepare taxpayers’ personal federal and state tax returns. The goal of this program is to provide free tax preparation, including free electronic filing of tax returns, to low- and middle-income groups with special attention to those age 60 and older.

Neither business returns nor complex personal returns will be handled. This service will be available until Saturday, April 16th in Presque Isle and Tuesday, April 19th in Caribou.
