WESTON – Leola went to be with her Lord and Savior, on February 3, 2016, at the age of 93, surrounded by her loving family. Leola was born February 9, 1922, in Homesville, New Brunswick, Canada, daughter of Harvey and Erma Kinney.

Leola was a graduate of Houlton High School. In 1941, she married Earl Cowan and they were married for 67 years. Leola worked at East Grand High School as a cook for 22 years until her retirement. She is remembered fondly for her famous homemade rolls. She was one of the founding Board Members of the East Grand Health Center in Danforth and continued to serve on the Board until her death. Leola was a member of the Danforth United Methodist Church which she loved with all her heart. She was the piano player and treasurer for the church for many years. Leola was also a member of the Rex L Mckenney, Post 45 Auxiliary for many years.

Leola’s greatest joy was her family. It was the simple moments that she shared that became the priceless memories; the smell of homemade bread, family gatherings at the Farm, the contentment of rocking her children and grandchildren, and her faith in God.

Leola is survived by her four children, Maynard and Cherry Cowan of Bridgewater, Maurice and Linda Cowan of Weston, Winnie Windsor of Waltham, Mass. and Sheila and Leslie Keith of Lincoln; her eight grandchildren, Vicki and Chuck Moody, Matthew and Molly Cowan, Nina and Troy Bradstreet, Brad Cowan, Wendy and Barrett Westerdahl, Adam Windsor and his fiancé Keri Call, Scott and April Irish, and Patrick and Crystal Irish; 11 great-grandchildren, Abby Moody, Taylor Cowan, Noah, Nicholas, and Sophia Bradstreet, Kadyn Cowan, Kami and James Westerdahl, Hannah Irish, Landri and Brayden Irish, Barton Frost, and Nick Jessell. She is also survived by three sisters-in-law Marion Clarke of Virginia, Eleanor Carver of Portland and Roni Kinney of Houlton; many nieces and nephews; and Ellie Hagerman, and Sherri Pratt who Leola loved as her own.

Leola was predeceased by her parents, her husband Earl, brother Winston Kinney, and her sister Madeline Smart.

The family would like to extend a very special thank you to Visiting Nurses of Aroostook/Hospice of Aroostook and Drs. Sussman and Abouleish for the excellent care of our mother. A memorial service will be held in the spring. A time and date will be announced. Those who wish to make gifts in her memory, may do so to the Danforth United Methodist Church, or East Grand Health Center, 201 Houlton Road, Danforth, ME.
