Youth Week creates laughs

REMEMBER WHEN

As far back as I can remember the third week in February has been the “Youth Week” in our churches. This is a week dedicated to youth activities and services.

One year, the youth pastor rented the gym at Zippel School here in Presque Isle so the youth and other “youthful” persons could have a fun night. We were all on the floor playing volleyball and really enjoying the time of sport and fun. My sons were both in junior high at the time and they were there having a great time as well.

All of a sudden the ball was lofted high in the air and was headed straight toward my oldest son Adam. Everyone was shouting “Get it Adam!!!” The funny thing was Adam was just standing there looking around. Just as we thought he was going to ignore it, his right fist came out of nowhere and literally slammed that ball. It put me in mind of the missile launcher on the ship I served in my Navy days. The ball went into the rafters (steel lattice-type girders), and stuck in the angle of one of them.

There wasn’t a dry eye in the gym from everyone laughing until they hurt.

Next time I will tell you about our sliding trip to the ski slopes at Loring Air Force Base as I continue to Remember When …
