The Carlisle co-op boys’ swim team, which includes athletes from Caribou, MSSM and Presque Isle, came in sixth place out of 14 teams at the Penobscot Valley Conference championship meet held Feb. 8 at Husson University in Bangor.
The girls competed in the conference meet two days earlier at UM-Orono and placed 12th overall.
The boys tallied 85 points, with the relay team of Nate Gere, David Govoni, Austin Scott and Leigh Buck placing fourth in both the 200 medley relay (1:52.97) and the 200 freestyle relay (1:41.4).
Buck was fifth in the 100 free (54.15) and eighth in the 50 free (24.47), while Scott came in fifth in the 100 butterfly (58.18) and 12th in the 100 back (1:09.42).
Gere took seventh in the 500 free (5:34.02) and eighth in the 100 fly (1:01.95), while Govoni came in 10th in the 100 breast (1:12.78).
“With only four boys on the team, finishing sixth overall was a huge accomplishment,” said Carlisle coach Erin Tateishi.
On the girls’ side, Maddie Wing recorded a fourth-place finish in the 200 free (2:10.71) and was eighth in the 100 fly (1:07.89). The 400 freestyle relay team of Abby Espling, Kyra Thibeault, Abby Raymond and Wing came in 10th in 4:41.26.
The state championship meets were held Monday and Tuesday and results will be posted in next week’s edition.
