BREWER – Karla G. Kurry, of 54 Madison Ave., passed away in the arms of her family on February 17, 2016, in Danvers, MA. She was born Karla Rae Gardner on October 16, 1953, to her parents, Herbert and Alice Martin Gardner. Karla grew up in Ashland, and attended high school there. Throughout her life, she was dedicated to the people of the Advent Christian Church and their work with the youth choir.
Karla and Robert, her husband of 40 years, were an inspiration to many. She was first and foremost a loving wife, with a great sense of humor, who could face any obstacle with laughter and compassion. It was her sense of compassion for others that led Karla to pursue a career in social work and justice for others. She earned her BA in Social Work and Criminal Justice from the University of Southern Maine, and her Master of Social Work from U Conn Hartford. She practiced as a licensed clinical Social Worker for the State of Maine for 30 years. During this time, she dedicated herself to advocating for the rights of hundreds of people and helping them reach their God given potential. Karla’s friends and family valued her friendship, kindness, and good counsel.
Karla spent her free time gardening, and enjoyed time on the Maine Coast on day trips with her husband, Bob. She also loved dearly her many cats over the years, especially JoJo. Anti-
quing and auction going were also among her favorite hobbies.
Karla was preceded in death by her parents, Alice and Herbert Gardner; brother, Bruce; and sister, Betty Gardner Smith.
Karla is survived by her husband, Robert; her brother, Michael and wife, Pamela Gardner and their family, of Villa Ridge, MO; son, Jorma Kurry, his wife, Karin and grandson, Iain, of Falmouth, ME. She will also missed by her sisters- and brothers-in-law. Aunt Karla will be missed by her many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.
