Chamber to present annual awards

HOULTON, Maine — This Saturday, the Greater Houlton Chamber of Commerce will host its annual Dinner and Awards Ceremony for members and friends at the Houlton Lodge of Elks.

“This annual event brings guests together for an evening of fine dining, a brief business meeting, awards ceremony, and a fun filled auction,” said Jane Torres, executive director for the Chamber. “The Chamber’s Board of Directors transforms the Houlton Lodge of Elks into an elegant, and beautiful supper club with a lovely catered dinner preceded by hors d’oeuvres and a fine selection of scrumptious desserts.”

The most important part of the evening is the recognition of people and businesses chosen for their extraordinary contributions to the Greater Houlton area.

“As in years past, the list of businesses, groups and individuals was very impressive but in the end the tally gave us the obvious 2016 winners,” said Torres.

The Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes an individual for a lifetime of consistent community contributions. Their actions, achievements and contributions evoke admiration and respect throughout the community and beyond. The 2016 recipient is Andy Marino.

Business of the Year has the following criteria but is not limited to: business growth and improvement; quality customer service; staying power; overall excellence in the marketplace; community contributions; major achievements within the business field and they must be a member of the Greater Houlton Chamber of Commerce. The 2016 recipient is Agri-Cal.

The Community Spirit Award recognizes an area individual who has shown extraordinary community spirit through acts of volunteerism and or any other manner of contribution to our area. The 2016 recipient is Steve Bither.

The Community Service Award recognizes an individual or group who has consistently contributed to our community in any manner that has improved the quality of life to its community members through services or programs provided. The 2016 recipient is Sally and Tom Callnan.

“This event provides a perfect opportunity enjoy a great meal and to connect with colleagues and friends while showing support for the award recipients,” Torres said. “It is not necessary to be a member of the Chamber to attend.
