Slushy roads contributed to accident on U.S. Route 1
CARIBOU, Maine — Donna Ekman, 49, of Woodland lost control of her 2010 Chevy Impala Feb. 26 and collided with Alfred Reynolds of Catskill, New York, who was driving a 2015 Volvo tractor trailer. Ekman was traveling south on U.S. Route 1 when she lost control and crossed into the northbound lane, eventually striking the rear tire of Reynold’s tractor trailer. Ekman’s Chevy Impala continued to spin out of control until stopping in a ditch just south of the Doyle Road.
When authorities arrived, Ekman stated she was in pain and was transported to Cary Medical Center by Caribou Fire and Ambulance. Caribou police were assisted by the Aroostook County Sheriff’s office on the scene, and say that the icy, slushy roads were likely a factor in the accident.
The accident is currently being investigated by officers Tim Dubois and Craig Peterson.
