Gary Wayne Dyer Sr.
DYER, Gary Wayne, Sr., 74, MARS HILL, February 28, 2016. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Thursday, March 3, 2016, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Mars Hill. Arrangements are under the care of Duncan Funeral Home, Mars Hill.
MARS HILL – Gary Wayne Dyer, Sr., 74, passed away peacefully on February 28, 2016, at the Aroostook Health Center, Mars Hill, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born February 19, 1942, in E. Plantation, the son of the late Frank “Bud” and Martha (Crouse) Hallett, and biological father Winslow Dyer.
Gary graduated from ACI, class of 1960. He married his high school sweetheart, Geraldine Tweedie Dyer, on May 7, 1960. Gary was employed by Coca-Cola Company, LePage Bakeries, Mars Hill Shippers and in his later years was a self-employed carpenter.
Gary enjoyed his yearly trip to the Allagash which he did for 31 years, spending much quality time with close friends at the Jalbert Camps. He also enjoyed his camp in E. Plantation. His greatest happiness was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Geraldine of Mars Hill; daughter, Gayle and Fred Gagnon; sons, Gary, Jr. and Lori Dyer, Greggory and Heidi Dyer, and Geoffrey and Margo Dyer; grandchildren, Matt and Chantal Pelletier, Garrett and Megan Dyer, Erika Dyer, Lee Gagnon and Rebecca Grass, Haleigh Dyer and Greg Schools, Emily Dyer, Andrew Dyer, Annaliese Dyer, and Regina Dyer; four great-grandsons who were the apples of his eye and would make his face light up when they came to see him, Zachary Pelletier, Mason Pelletier, Bently Simpson, and Jack Schools; siblings, Frank and Pam Hallett, Debbie and Jim Alexander; brothers-in-law, Jim Tweedie, Bob and Joan Tweedie; sisters-in-law, Eleanor Grow, and Mary Ann Buck; dear and faithful friends, Norm and Liz McPherson, Donnie and Connie Rideout; and a special cousin, Bruce Dyer.
In addition to his parents, Gary was predeceased by his father- and mother-in-law, Gordon and Anne Tweedie; and granddaughter, Victoria Rose Dyer.
The family wishes to thank everyone who showed excellent and compassionate care to Gary during his illness including Dr. Nancy O’Neil and staff at the Mars Hill Heath Center, Dr. Sood and staff of the Oncology department at The Aroostook Medical Center in Presque Isle, and the staff at The Aroostook Health Center, Skilled Unit in Mars Hill.
Friends may call 7-9 p.m., Wednesday, March 2, 2016, at Duncan Funeral Home, 8 Main Street, Mars Hill. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Thursday, March 3, 2016, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Parish of the Precious Blood, Mars Hill with The Very Rev. Jean Paul LaBrie, Celebrant. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversations and refreshments at a reception following the Mass in the Parish Hall. Spring interment will be held at Kings Grove Cemetery, Mars Hill.
