PORTLAND — A Houlton woman was arrested Saturday morning at the Portland Transportation Center and charged with aggravated trafficking in heroin, according to police.
Jessi Polchies, 32, had 30 grams of heroin with her as she was waiting to take a bus back north, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland indicated Saturday evening in a prepared statement.
McCausland said the arrest stemmed from an investigation by Maine State Police and Maine Drug Enforcement Agency of a group of people transporting heroin from Lawrence, Massachusetts, into York County .
“Investigators learned that Polchies had traveled from Houlton to the Old Orchard Beach area in order to purchase some of that heroin to be transported back to the Houlton area to be sold,” McCausland wrote.
“She was due to take a bus from Portland to Bangor Saturday morning,” McCausland said.
Police found Polchies in the lobby of the bus terminal and arrested her on an outstanding warrant for operating after suspension of her driver’s license.
During a subsequent interview, he added, she admitted she had heroin in her possession.
After police found the 30 grams of the drug, she was taken to the Cumberland County Jail in Portland, where her bail was set at $10,060, McCausland said.
She is expected to make her first court appearance Monday in Portland District Court.
“More arrests are expected in this case,” McCausland said.
