PRESQUE ISLE — Registration is now open for the University of Maine Cooperative Extension’s annual Maine Grain Conference, to be held Wednesday, March 23, from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at Northern Maine Community College in Presque Isle.
Post-harvest handling is the theme of this year’s conference, which is designed for farmers, crop advisers and others involved in the agricultural community.
Scheduled speakers include Eric Theriault, grain-producer with Eastern Grains, Inc. in Drummond, N.B.; Loic Dewavrin, miller and owner of a 1,500-acre organic farm outside Quebec; and Kenneth Hellevang, agricultural engineer with North Dakota State University.
Additional topics will include cover crops and soil health, storage practices, crop insurance and research trial results. Participants will receive 2 pesticide recertification credits and 3.5 Certified Crop Adviser credits.
Pre-registration for the conference is required by March 18. The cost is $25 if pre-registered by March 14, or $35 after that date. The fee includes lunch and a snack.
