MONTICELLO— Dale P. Swimm, 69, passed away at a Presque Isle hospital on February 28, 2016. He was born April 15, 1946 in Monticello, the youngest of 17 children of Jesse and Beulah (White) Swimm.
Upon graduation from BCA in 1964, Dale joined the U.S. Army. In July 1970, he married Pam McKay and together they opened Dale’s Market in Monticello and ran it successfully for a number of years. After selling the business, Dale went to work as a carpenter, handyman and was always lending a helping hand to anyone who needed it. Dale also worked at SAD 29 as a custodian for several years until retiring in 2011. After retirement, he especially enjoyed playing Words with Friends, four wheeling with Ann, Paul and Lisa, his sons and his grandchildren. He enjoyed keeping a well groomed lawn, daily coffee at the Country Store and suppers at the Blue Moose with Ann. Dale will be remembered as a loving husband, companion, father and grandfather.
Dale is survived by Ann Campbell Joy, his constant companion for the past eight years; his sons, Marc Swimm and his wife, Renee of Exeter, Jeffrey Swimm of Bangor; seven grandchildren, Kirsten, Kira, Korbin, Kassidy, Kaidy, Brittney and Leanna; one sister, Ruth Swimm of Houlton; three brothers, Glen of Monticello, Bob of Massachusetts, Paul of Monticello; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Pamela in 2005; his parents; six sisters, Reta Rafford, Doris Foster, Della Mills, Autice Socoby, Lorraine Wilson and Janette Swallow; six brothers, Lawrence, Lee, Bernard, Fred, Vaughn and Garth.
Friends called Thursday, March 3, from 6-8 p.m. at the Dunn Funeral Home. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Friday, March 4 at the Littleton United Baptist Church with Rev. Steve Straubel officiating. A reception was held following the service at the Monticello Fish & Game. Interment will be held in the Jewell Cemetery with Military Honors in the spring.
