HOULTON, Maine — Melissa Richardson of Houlton has been appointed by Governor Paul LePage to serve as the Registrar of Deeds.

Richardson succeeds Tyler Clark, who resigned from the position in January. She took over the post Feb. 3. Prior to this position, Richardson worked at Severson, Hand and Nelson. She also previously worked as a clerk in the Register of Deeds.

The Registrar of Deeds office records land records such as deeds and mortgages, as well as maps and land surveys. Richardson is filling the position until the November election, at which point she will have to run for re-election if she wishes to continue.
