RSU 39 announces staff changes

CARIBOU, Maine — Schools within RSU 39 recently experienced five new hires, two transfers, two resignations, and one retirement.

     The school board also unanimously agreed to open a position for a new educational/custodian position at the Caribou Technology Center. According to Superintendent Timothy Doak, the new position will involve working part-time as a custodian and part-time as an educator in the Tech Center, teaching skills such as welding and carpentry.

     New hires at Caribou High School include James “Chico” Hernandez as assistant track coach, Marc Weeks as boys’ volleyball coach, Sarah Lajoie as assistant tennis coach, and Jim Chandler as JV baseball coach. In addition, Marie Beckum was hired as an assistant track coach at Caribou Middle School.

     Fred Patterson will be moving from his maintenance position in Caribou to a maintenance and bus driver role at Limestone Community School. His former position will be filled by Chris Skidgel, who is transferring from a night custodian job at the Caribou Tech Center.

     Resignations include Limestone Community School Bus Driver David Martin and District Technology Coordinator Mike Gardiner.

     The Superintendent also announced that GEAR-Up Director Mark Jones will be retiring at the end of the 2015-16 school year.
