Editor’s Note: The following article is a synopsis written by staff members and volunteers of the Cary Memorial Library in Houlton highlighting one of the suggested reading books, as determine by the staff.
In the Children’s Cary Library a series of well-written books called “Exploring Careers” is available. We perused the “Careers in Sales and Marketing” by Barbara Sheen who used multiple resources from many different areas on this topic.
She includes sections on retail, market research, advertising and specialists in public relations. Within those categories a clear explanation of the job is offered. The education required is listed as well as the skills needed, salary spreads and outlook for future in that field. Even conversations with actual workers in the particular areas are fun. Helpful hints abound throughout the text.
There are added resources for learning more on each category of the careers in marketing and sales.
Other books in this series cover military, health care, fashion, education, world of finance and engineering. All are easy to read and ever so informative- a wonderful resource for exploring the varied careers available for “spreading one’s wings”! Perhaps a disgruntled worker would like to learn what other jobs would be more interesting?
