MARS HILL, Maine — With mild temperatures and low snowfall this winter, the local snowmobile industry has suffered. Regardless, race organizers have not allowed this discouragement to affect their preparation of Saturday’s “ Bite the Bullet” and Battle Bigrock Hillclimb.
It marks the first time since 2007 that the snowmobile event will be held in conjunction with the 16th annual Mars Hill Winterfest. The event starts at 5:30 p.m. and includes a special fireworks display around 8:30 p.m.
Registration will be from 3-4:45 p.m. for all competitors, with a $20 per class entry fee. A mandatory driver’s meeting will follow at 5 p.m. and the races start at 5:30 p.m.
Races will feature side-by-side heats up the steep and challenging mountain, designed to test a driver’s maneuvering skills in several different divisions of snowmobile racing. There will be several various classes offered in the snowmobile hill climb and racing competition such as: Kids 120 stock & modified, Teens (ages 11-15, up to 572 cc), Women’s, 500, 600, 700, 800 and open classes and a special tribute “Dustin’s Dynamic Dash” race in Memory of Dustin McCrum, showcasing competitors of all ages, from throughout the state and neighboring Canada.
“It’s a realization that you’re out there doing what you love, what you enjoy, a passion that never departs due to the fierce competition,” said Jere Humphrey, event organizer.
