TWEEDIE, Laura A., 92, EASTON & HOULTON, at Houlton, March 12, 2016. Funeral service will be conducted Wednesday, March 16, at 1 p.m. at the Funeral Home. Arrangements are in the care of Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, Fort Fairfield.
EASTON & HOULTON — Laura A. (Johnston) Tweedie, 92, wife of the late Harold R. Tweedie, passed away Saturday evening, March 12, 2016 at a Houlton nursing facility, follow a period of declining health.
She was born May 6, 1923 in Andover, New Brunswick, the daughter of Lewis L. and Amy (Miller) Johnston. She attended Beaconsfield, New Brunswick schools and moved with her parents to Easton in 1940. She was married to Harold R. Tweedie on June 13, 1946 and resided in Easton for many years prior to her moving to Madigan Estates in Houlton in 2012.
Laura had a big heart and was always happiest when she was able to give something to neighbors, friends and family, most often from her kitchen. She loved to cook for friends and family, and was bested noted for her “seafood chowders”, baking the best bread and rolls in town, and her “stuffin” at holiday time. Laura most enjoyed her time at home, content with cleaning, cooking, reading a new cookbook, tending flowers on her porch, enjoying country and crooner music on her Hi-Fi, and listening to high school basketball games on her transistor radio. She cherished her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They meant so much to her, especially in her later years of life. She will be dearly missed by her family and many friends. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Tweedie was predeceased by her husband Harold on January 13, 1978; and her brother, Donald Johnston.
She is survived by two sons, Jerry Tweedie and his wife Lynn of Houlton, Alan Tweedie and his fiancé Heidi Lawrence of Hermon; grandchildren, Stacy Austin and her husband Dan of Smyrna, and their children, Zoe and Rider, Jeremy Tweedie of Brewer, Kara Tweedie of Portland, Steven Tweedie and his wife Londa of Patten, and their children, Christopher, Eliana and Ava, Ryan Tweedie and his wife Carrie of Newburgh and their children, Ridge and Laura.
Friends may call Wednesday, March 16, 2016 from noon to 1:00 p.m. at the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield, where the funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. with the Rev. Dale Holden officiating. Spring interment will take place in the family plot at Riverside Cemetery, Fort Fairfield.
