CARIBOU, Maine — The Central Aroostook Soil and Water Conservation District (CASWCD) will offer a septic system installation workshop designed for contractors, local plumbing inspectors and site evaluators.
The daylong session will be held at the Caribou Inn and Convention Center Tuesday, April 5, from 8 a.m.-4 p.m.
Presenters will be Glenn Angell, state site evaluator, and Dave Rocque, state soil scientist. They will share what they have learned over the years and help participants improve their knowledge of septic systems.
Continuing education credits are available for evaluators, inspectors and contractors for both septic system installation and erosion and sediment control. Upon completion of the course, participants will receive a certificate of attendance. For contractors, this workshop qualifies as the course required for voluntary certification; certification is contingent upon satisfactory inspection of two septic systems by an LPI after completion of the course.
The registration fee is $65 when paid by March 28, and $75 after that date. All materials and refreshments will be provided. Those attending will get lunch on their own.
Among the topics considered will be revisions to 2015 rules, erosion/sediment control, causes and avoidance of failures, inspections which can hold up things, the interchangeability of disposal field devices, installer liability, reading and understanding the HHE-200 Form, how water moves into and through the soil, septic system hydrology issues, fill extension retaining walls, backfill specifications and history, installing septic system force mains through wetlands, force main stream crossings, septic system-related well-contamination case studies, and Natural Resources Protection Act and mandatory shoreland zoning issues.
