Monticello man gets 30 days for domestic violence assault

HOULTON — A Monticello man who accused his girlfriend of having an affair and then assaulted her has pleaded guilty to domestic violence assault and been sentenced to a month in jail.

Aaron Finnemore, 41, pleaded guilty to an amended charge of domestic violence assault, a misdemeanor, Assistant District Attorney Kari Wells-Puckett said March 15.

He was sentenced Monday in Aroostook County Superior Court in Houlton by Justice E. Allen Hunter to a $300 fine and 30 days in jail, which he started serving March 15. Finnemore originally had been charged with felony domestic violence assault, but as part of the plea deal, the state removed language referring to a prior conviction which had led to the elevated offense, according to Wells-Puckett.

Finnemore previously served five years in prison with all but but 18 months suspended, along with probation for two years, for a 2009 domestic violence assault conviction.

In the current case, he accused his victim of cheating on him and went to another individual’s home to threaten the person with whom he thought she was having an affair, Wells-Puckett said.

He then went back to the victim, and though she denied having an affair, assaulted her, beating her about the face and upper body.

“We would have presented photographic evidence of red marks on her chin and collarbone,” said the assistant district attorney. “We also would have presented the 9-1-1 call, as well as the witness who would have described the threat received from Finnemore.”

Finnemore was represented by Houlton attorney Jeff Pickering.
