Registration open for swim classes

    The Presque Isle Recreation Center is accepting pre-paid registrations through Friday for the upcoming winter session of classes, which are being offered March 28 through May 7, 2016 at the University of Maine at Presque Isle’s Gentile Hall.

There are openings in the following classes:
Parent/Toddler (6 months to 3 years), PRE 1 (for ages 3-5 and not comfortable in the water), PRE 2 (for ages 3-5, comfortable in the water); PRE 3 (ages 3-5, swimming), Learn to Swim 2, Learn to Swim 3-4, Learn to Swim 5-6, adult lessons and adapted lessons for children with autism.
Shallow water exercise classes and deep water exercise classes are also offered.
The recreation center’s hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Lessons have a $25 fee per participant. Non-residents will have an additional family fee of $50. For more information on times, call (207) 764-2545.

Track and field clinics

    The Maine Association of USA Track and Field will conduct a track and field official’s clinic Sunday, April 3 in the Orono council chambers at the Town Office building on 59 Main St. in Orono.
Registration begins at 11:15 a.m. and the clinic will run from noon-4 p.m.
Anyone interested in officiating track and field at the youth, high school or collegiate level is invited to attend. Track coaches and parents of athletes who want to learn more about the rules are also encouraged to attend.

Packard gains honor

    University of Maine at Presque Isle sophomore pitcher/infielder Sara Packard of St. Albans has been selected the Association of Division III Independents Softball Player of the Week for the week ending March 13.
Packard picked up three pitching wins out of four games and recorded 23 strikeouts along the way. She posted a 3.26 earned run average and offensively had a .714 on-base percentage.
