MT. CHASE – Roger James Hobbs, age 74, of Mt. Chase, passed away Sunday, March 20th at his daughter Tammie’s home due to a prolonged series of illnesses. He was born in Hartland, Maine January 23rd, 1942, to Clarence and Emeline (Currie) Hobbs. Emeline raised him in the Skowhegan/Corinna area until she returned to her roots in Littleton and remarried to Ralph Stone when Roger was 17. His only sister died at birth a few years later. Roger was employed from a young age, taking pride in his work at each stage of his career. Potato house, slaughter house, Tannery, and Woolen Mill were all part of his education. He worked his way to supervisor positions at both the State of Maine D.O.T. in Crystal and the old Huber Mill. He was especially proud of the work he was able to contribute to the town’s effort at building Patten Veneer Products. The Old Man was able to realize his childhood dream with his final trade, “over the road truck driver”, retiring from F.H. Qualey and Sons a few years ago.

He is survived by his son Greg Hobbs; daughter, Tammie McCarthy & husband Ron McCarthy; and son, Trevor Hobbs & wife, Barb Spaulding. He stayed with us long enough to see two more generations. His grandchildren are: Greg Andrews, Manda Toothaker, Brian Brewer & wife, Becky, Bonnie Chouinard & husband, Bobby, Aaron Toothaker & fiance’, Kelly, Amy Hobbs, Jason Hobbs (laid to rest), Allison & husband, Jack, Michael Hobbs, Kilie Foley, Caroline Hobbs and Corinna Hobbs. His great grandchildren are: Josiah, Lauralie, Caiden, Emma, Kaylee, Kamerin, Nevaeh, Alivia and Konnor.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date to be held at the Wesleyan Church in Crystal, Maine. Roger married Amber Hurlbert on March 6th, 1971. He had to say an early goodbye August 14th. Their ashes will be reunited in a private ceremony, giving them a chance to celebrate a belated 45th anniversary. Dad is already telling Mom about the final chapter of their story, adding just a bit to make it better. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Roger’s honor to a charity of ones choice.
