Fire destroys trucking garage
GARFIELD PLANTATION, Maine — A fire has destroyed a local transportation company’s maintenance garage and a truck.
Flames were burning through the roof at the garage owned by MTK Inc. when firefighters with the Ashland Fire Department arrived early on March 22, 2016, Fire Chief Don Bouley said Thursday.
Fire crews from Masardis and Portage also were called to help, and within four hours, the blaze was extinguished, Bouley said.
“It’s very windy up there almost all the time,” he said of the location on Hacker Farm Road. “The high winds made it hard to stop it.”
No one was injured, he said.
The two-bay garage was used for maintaining their trucks, Bouley said, adding that fire crews were able to prevent the blaze from damaging a crane located nearby.
The cause of the fire is not clear, but Bouley said a wood stove he noticed in the garage could have been a contributor.
Dawn Clark, one of the family owners of MTK, said Thursday that the company wasn’t sure about its future plans. However, Clark did not want to offer further comments.
