Softball organizational meetings
The Caribou Parks and Recreation Department will conduct organizational meetings for men’s softball and co-ed softball on Tuesday, April 12, 2016, at the Caribou Wellness and Recreation Center.
The co-ed meeting is at 5:30 p.m. and the men’s meeting begins at 6:30 p.m.
Any team wishing to participate in the leagues this summer should have a representative attend. Also, anyone not on a team but wishes to play may call 493-4224 to have their names placed on a list that will be passed along to team representatives.
League rules, dues and starting dates will be discussed and all the necessary paperwork will be distributed. Call Matt Bouchard at 493-4224 for more information.
Packard gains weekly honor for second consecutive time
For the second week in a row, University of Maine at Presque Isle sophomore pitcher/infielder Sara Packard of St. Albans has been selected the Association of Division III Independents Softball Player of the Week.
Packard gained the honor for the week of March 14-20 while continuing her strong play. She batted .400 (4 for 10) with two home runs, five RBI and six runs scored as the Owls went 3-1 on the week. She also went 3-1 in the circle with a 1.67 ERA over 21 innings
Packard went 3 for 3 with two home runs, four RBI and three runs scored at the plate in a 14-4 victory over Wheelock. The sophomore also did her part in the circle, allowing zero earned runs in five innings to pick up the complete game victory.
Track and field clinics
The Maine Association of USA Track and Field will conduct a track and field official’s clinic Sunday, April 3 in the Orono council chambers at the Town Office building on 59 Main St. in Orono.
Registration begins at 11:15 a.m. and the clinic will run from noon-4 p.m.
Anyone interested in officiating track and field at the youth, high school or collegiate level is invited to attend. Track coaches and parents of athletes who want to learn more about the rules are also encouraged to attend.
