CARIBOU — Cary Medical Center has been recognized by the SafeCare Group as one of the top 100 SafeCare Hospitals. The hospital earned the distinction based on performance in several key measures.
The 100 SafeCare Hospitals consist of hospitals that excelled in the comprehensive, evidence-based metrics of the Affordable Care Act. These metrics are Hospital Valued Based Program (HVBP), Hospital Readmissions Reduction Program (HRRP), and Hospital-Acquired Conditions Reduction Program (HACRP). Only about six percent of US hospitals earn the prestigious 100 SafeCare Hospitals distinction.
Kris Doody, RN, Cary CEO, said the recognition reflects the ongoing commitment of hospital personnel to provide the best care.
“Over these past two years our hospital has been recognized by a number of organizations,” said Doody. “This latest acknowledgement, that places Cary Medical Center among the top six percent of hospitals in the nation, is further evidence that we are doing the right thing and it is a great tribute to the remarkable efforts of our entire organization.”
According to the SafeCare Group, the distinguished medical and legal experts who designed, developed and implemented the Affordable Care Act believed that a listing of high performing hospitals in the metrics of HVBP, HRRP and HACRP would promote strong incentives to improve care. This framework was adopted for the 100 SafeCare Hospitals methodology, as it represented holistic, evidence-based metrics in the areas of quality of care, patient safety and efficiency of care.
As a result, the 100 SafeCare Hospitals utilized methods firmly grounded in nationally recognized, evidence-based metrics, and data of the Affordable Care Act. Hospitals that performed poorly on these metrics receive a financial penalty from the Centers of Medicare and Medicaid Services.
Cary CEO Doody said that while the financial environment of healthcare is changing, including a move towards “pay for performance,” this is not only about reimbursement.
“While it is true that we are at a time of great change and challenge in health care, the reality is that we want to do what is in the best interest of our patients and their families,” she said.
“It’s still all about keeping patients safe, providing the highest quality clinical care, and giving our patients the best hospital experience during their stay with us. That is the goal of our Cary team and we are honored to be recognized as one of the top 100 SafeCare Hospitals.”
The SafeCare Group was founded in 2010 to help hospitals excel in areas of the Affordable Care Act.
