For Houlton Regional Hospital campaign, fundraising is key

HOULTON, Maine — A fundraising challenge for the Health Services Foundation was set last year to raise $350,000 in a multi-equipment, multi-department campaign for Houlton Regional Hospital.

“We will be sharing more information about Phase I of the campaign very soon, however, we are really excited to let everyone know that due to everyone’s outstanding support we successfully reached the goal for Phase I,” said Elizabeth Dulin, foundation executive director. “Now we look forward to Phase II of assisting the hospital in overall support of 24 pieces of equipment for 12 departments.

One way the Foundation will do this is with its annual Charity Auction that will be the kick-off event to start bringing in the funds needed for this next equipment drive. The auction will be held on Saturday, April 30, at the Shiretown Inn and Suites on North Road with a preview beginning at 6 p.m.

“This is a change of venue and we know everyone will enjoy being there with Wayne Watson event auctioneer for the evening,” Dulin noted.

There will be a silent auction, along with highlight items of the Smith and Wesson 1911 E-series firearm, a final Goodrich Jewelry diamond ring, and another highlight yet to be determined, she said.

“We have made some changes to our stellar lineup of items that we know everyone will be delighted with as well,” Dulin said.

Photos of auction items have been posted on the Foundation’s Facebook page and company website, with the listing of donors.

“Every year we marvel at the generosity of our auction donors who are so willing to step up to the plate to help and this year is no exception, ” Dulin said.

Phase II of this multi-faceted campaign will focus on the need for 14 pieces of equipment to assist the emergency room, operating room, cardiac rehab, obstetrics/labor and delivery, physical and occupational therapy, dietary and ambulatory surgery.

“A campaign such as this one has far reaching benefits for all those using Houlton Regional by providing significant health care services with state-of-the-art equipment,” Dulin said. “What better way to help our communities than with the best possible health care options we can offer when they need them?”

The Foundation has been raising money for Houlton Regional many years.

“The level of fundraising dollars can get very serious along the way; however there are also a lot of fun times in working to reach the goal,” Dulin said. “I say it over and over, none of fabulous equipment and services could ever be accomplished without our donors and our gratitude toward them is never ending.”
